Frequently Asked Questions

What if the course I want to enrol in is full?

This is only an issue for limited enrolment courses. If a course is full, you are advised to either add your name to the waitlist or contact Community Education for advice on an alternative course. We will only contact those on the waitlist if a place becomes available.

What happens if a course is cancelled?

You will be advised as soon as possible and your enrolment fee will be refunded.

What if I want to withdraw from a course that I have enrolled for?

If you withdraw prior to the start of a course, your enrolment fee will be refunded but an administration fee may be charged. If you withdraw after a course has started, your enrolment fee may not be refunded. If you intend withdrawing please advise us as early as possible as there may be a waiting list for places on the course.

Where are the courses held?

All of our courses are held on the Ilam campus at the University of Canterbury. You will be sent a receipt after you enrol which gives details of the venue and the course dates and times. A campus map is shown on the back of this receipt.

Please refer to Venues for the location of university venues.

Where can I park my car?

Limited daytime parking is available, in areas designated for visitors on campus, by purchasing a parking coupon. These can be purchased from the Security Office at 114 Ilam Road or cafes on campus and will need to be displayed in your vehicle. Parking after 6pm is not restricted.

Please follow all parking restrictions or your car may be ticketed, clamped or towed.

What if I have special access needs?

Whenever courses are held elsewhere on campus or off-site, every effort is made to provide suitable access if we are given advance notice. Please advise us of special needs when you enrol for the course.

What if my personal details change?

If you change your address or contact telephone number, please notify us so we can keep you up to date with information and contact you should there be any changes to the course you are enrolled in. You will be able to change your Personal Details on-line at this web site and by doing so this will automatically update your personal details on our database.

What if I am not a New Zealand resident?

International students and non-permanent residents will be requested to pay an additional fee.

What if I am under 18?

The primary focus of Community Education is on adult education. Enrolments from people under 18 and still attending school will be accepted at our discretion.
